Servicing the New Haven Area Since 1954
The Gunneson Flooring Company was established in 1954 by the father and son team of Mauritz and Bernt Gunneson. That tradition carried on when Bernt’s sons Gary, who joined the company in 1986 and Lars, in 1993 joined the team. A fourth Generation of Gunneson’s has begun to carry on this tradition of craftsmanship and knowledge.
Born in Sweden, Mauritz Gunneson sailed to America in 1919 to start a new life. Shortly after his arrival Mauritz settled in New Haven and began to build a new life here as a craftsmen. His son Bernt was a graduate of Boardman Trade School in New Haven. After serving in the Army during the Korean war Bernt returned to New Haven and began to refine his craft as a home builder, hardwood flooring installer and wood floor refinisher.Gary joined on after his graduation from Fordham University and spending a few years living in New York. Then Lars followed after his graduation from the University of Connecticut.
Through the years Gunneson Flooring Company has seen many other hard wood flooring companies come and go but the basics of installing and refinishing hardwood floors has stayed pretty much the same. Whether you are refinishing an old floor or installing a new one Gary and Lars can show you many options and help you create a beautiful floor that will last a lifetime.

We can also supply you with specially milled wood for a more custom look. These woods are available in various widths and lengths either unfinished or factory pre-finished. Ask about pre-made and custom medallions, floor decals and painted accents for unique designs.
Quality Materials
Gunneson Flooring Company offers a wide assortment of woods such as oak (white and red), maple, cherry and exotic species. We only use the best woods graded select or above. Wood grade is very important to the finished product.
